Thursday Thoughts [part 2]

"Where's my phone?"

"I wonder if I have a message waiting for me on Facebook..."

"Don't say it Nathan Steed!" (even though I know what's going to happen, I always secretly wish the outcome in a book will change because I don't want the character to go through pain...weird right?)

"No really, where's my phone?"

"I wonder if Lyndsey will want to watch a movie tonight...oh wait. She's in Nevada...."

"What am I going to do while Lyndsey's gone? Hmm...maybe I'll finish that puzzle."

"Did I put it in my pocket? Under the seat? Backpack? Purse? COUCH????"

"I love the Work and the Glory."

"What's for dinner?"

As you can probably tell, I've misplaced my phone. Most likely at the office, but still worrisome!

Also, I'm still contemplating that last one...

Wee Bit Wednesday [3]

{one} what’s the worst date you’ve ever been on?
It's a toss up between...well, I can't say because I don't know who is going to read this

{two} if you could be any other person for one day, who would it be?
I honestly don't know. I think it would be too weird to be someone else. I'd rather just be me

{three} what is your favorite kind of cheese?
I absolutely love Sharp Cheddar!

{four} do you remember your 1st grade teacher?
Mrs. Nottestad. I don't really remember much about her, but she could be funny.
And she had a daughter named Maggie

{five} who is the first person you call when you have a bad day?
hmmm...If it's supremely bad, my mom. If it's just crappy, Maci and Carley

{six} were you ever in a school talent show?
Yeah, in seventh grade we got groups together to play violin pieces

{seven} who is your favorite fictional character?
Nathan Steed <3

{eight} can you open your eyes underwater?
No way! It hurts way bad!

{nine} do you look at the keyboard when you type?
Nope, I'm amateur pro at typing

{ten} when was the last time you took a nap?
I don't remember :( Sad day!

My First Trip to Wyoming!

It all started three years ago in Washington DC.

I was part of the team who made it to the National Science Bowl and I was super stoked!
The third day that we were in DC we met some really nice guys from Star Valley.
Brittni, Ashley, and I spent as much time with them as we could over the next couple of days.
We made a ton of memories that I wrote in my journal (there may or may not be three pages)

"There's a David-shaped hole in this bush!"~Zac when David tried to jump over a 6 foot bush and ended up going through it

"Fox SKUNK fox SKUNK fox SKUNK!"~ Tyson and David playing Fruits Basket. Tyson was skunk and David was fox

"Well that's just trecious!"~Apparently this is something they say in Star Valley? Treasure and precious

"Could you turn the radio down? I can't see!"~Their friend was telling a story about a guy who got so drunk he was seeing sound waves

"Are you gay?"
"Only on Mondays"~Zac's answer to everything. And proof that it doesn't always work out.

"I don't have a list. She just has to be a good little Mormon girl."
"Uhhh...Zac? I'm pretty sure that's a list." ~Zac and Tyson talking about their ideal girl

These are just a few!

Tyson is the only one that I really kept in contact with.
We became pretty good friends.
Here we are in DC back when I was a Sophomore and he was a Senior:
Ugh! I had glasses and a freshly unstitched weiner dog scar on my lip...
That was the cause of a lot of teasing:
"Okay, I know it was a weiner dog, but what were you doing? Kissing it?"

So naturally I made plans to attend his homecoming talk!

And here we are after his talk on Sunday:
Much better! Scar isn't so visible and glasses are gone!

Also, Carley's family was kind enough to let us stay in a house they own in Star Valley so we didn't have to leave too obscenely early in the morning.

Carley and I may or may not have worn the same color...

This is Carley opening the closet in the room we stayed in at her great grandma's house

And this is me at the other end of the closet....also a doorway to the other room

I had an awesome weekend folks!

Thursday Thoughts

These are just a few of the thoughts that have run through my mind today:

"I hate that I have to wear these safety glasses for work."

"I hope nobody notices these safety glasses."

"I'll bet I look like an idiot in these safety glasses."

"Crap, I guess they're a little more noticeable than I thought."

Me in those safety glasses

"Today is Thursday. That means tomorrow is Friday and therefore payday!"

"Tomorrow is Friday. That means the next day is Saturday and I get to go to Star Valley!"

"This kid is so friggin' cute!"

"I love my job!"

"What am I going to do for dinner tonight...?"

"The Work and the Glory=thebomb.com

"Would I put him in a dunk tank? No, I like that guy. I wouldn't purposely make him go in a dunk tank. Wait, he made a snide comment about my safety glasses...I changed my mind, he can go in the dunk tank."

I hope you enjoyed the look into my day! (Most of today was worrying about safety glasses that I only had to wear for two hours in case you didn't notice)

Also, most of it had to do with work...

Wee Bit Wednesday [2]

{one} how many times have you been a bridesmaid/maid of honor?
For Logan's wedding, Linz's wedding, and Bren and Shannon's wedding, so I guess 3.
Nathan and Rebecca didn't have bridesmaids.
I think that's a brilliant idea!
I'm not doing the whole bridesmaid thing either.
It's not like they really do much at LDS weddings anyway.

{two} what’s the last thing your do before you fall asleep at night?
It depends what order I decide to do my PJS Club stuff in.
Last night I wrote in my journal right before bed.
The night before I said my prayer right before bed.

{three} you just won your dream vacation, all expenses paid. where are you going?
I'm going to Australia folks!

{four} what is your favorite outdoor activity?
I love going bird watching...don't laugh!

{five} as a child, what did you want to “be when you grew up”? did you end up there?
I went through a bazillion different phases.
I wanted to be an artist (HA!) in first grade
A singer in third (HA!)
A librarian in fourth (HA!)
And now I'm making steps toward being a pharmacist :)
It's a good thing I learned that I had absolutely no talent for my other dreams before it was too late.

{six} what are 3 things your dream home would have that you don’t currently have?
A sprinkler system
A dish washer
A husband
hahaha

{seven} what’s for dinner tonight?
Probably one of those weird things that I come up with because it's just what I have.
I'm thinking rice, cheese, and lunch meat

{eight} if someone stopped by your house unannounced on a typical Saturday night, what would they find you doing?
I will answer that question with another question,
What is a typical Saturday night?

{nine} what’s your average monthly water bill?
My utilities are included in my rent which is 150

{ten} what do you do to relax?
Play Minesweeper and watch Netflix
Oh, and I'm starting to read more because Netflix is rotting my brain!

Table Talk

Ask anyone in my family, we heard this all the time around the dinner table:

"Fill 'er up to the knees!"

This was dad asking us to fill up his glass.
The knees came from the picture on an old Yosemite Sam glass.
He would refer to different part of the body depending on how much he wanted and we would fill it to that point.
It was the knees most often.
When we were living in Salmon this beloved glass broke when it fell out of the cupboard.
Dad never let this stop him. He still said it with a regular glass.

So...one day I was sitting in my apartment deep in thought thinking about what dad would love for Father's Day.
Then it hit me!

Thank Yoooooou Ebay!

You can tell the anticipation is almost killing him!

Contemplating...or maybe upset that it's not a tie?

The reaction
"Oh my goodness. Where did you find this?"

I think I made an excellent choice :)

Happy Father's Day to my daddy.
He is my hero and my inspiration.
I love him so much!
He is hard working and funny and smart and I don't know what I would do without him.
He's the best daddy in the world!
I love you Dad!

Wee Bit Wednesday

I saw this on a friend's blog and thought it was kinda fun!
I'm going to try to remember to do this, but I'm sure I'll forget sometimes.
Enjoy!

{one} what color best describes you + why?
Orange. Not just because it's my favorite, but because it's a happy color.

{two} how have you changed in the past year?
I have changed in so many ways! I guess graduating from high school will do that to you.
I don't think I've changed for the worse though.

{three} have you ever had any surgeries?
Just for wisdom teeth. I hope it stays that way.

{four} why did you start your blog?
Because my mom had one and I figured it would be a good way to keep her updated when I went to college.

{five} what are you looking forward to this summer?
Hopefully putting some money away. And taking a trip to Star Valley in a couple weeks :)

{six} do you have any family traditions for the 4th of July?
Not really...none that I can think of anyway.

{seven} what’s something new that you’ve tried in the past few months?
hmmm...Floor hockey. I thought I would hate it.
But it's kinda becoming an obsession!

{eight} what is the perfect a/c temperature?
I think around 73 or 74 degrees.
It's amazing when it's that warm at night and you go out in shorts and bare feet. Ahhh Arizona. How you are missed.

{nine} what was the last movie you saw in the theater?
Mars Needs Moms.
*cat throws up*
"Is that broccoli?" ~Mom
"No, that's vomit, but I understand the confusion!" ~Son

{ten} what song do you think everyone should hear at least once?
Unanswered Prayers.
So freakin' good!

The DT Diaries

I had a rough week at work...literally:
I got scratched all the way down my face yesterday.
It stung for quite awhile, but it didn't startle me too badly.
Nothing could after this:

It doesn't even look bad, but those marks by my eye occurred while I was driving.
Let's just say I was dealing with a very disgruntled client.
Good news though! The scratch takes focus off of this stinkin' indian burn/bruise!

Soda Springs Graduation 2011

On June 3rd I made the trip to Soda to see some of my best friends graduate from high school.

These are the gifts I made for Carley and Brianne.
As I've said before, I am not a poet, but I gave it a shot.
I printed off the pictures and framed them.
If you want to see them full sized, just click on them :)

My dearest friend Carley and I after the ceremony.
I can't believe that it's already been a year since I was in her place!
She's going to be studying cosmetology in Utah.

Mr. Boulder and Miss Emeria had a little reunion!
Nathan is going to Carroll College to become an Orthopedic Surgeon :)

Bradyn  Bradyn Bradyn...he is going to USU to study aviation.

She got her diploma!

NOT!
I think just about every graduate has a picture like this.
(They have to turn in their gowns to the office before they get their diploma)

Brianne!
I love this girl so freaking much!
She's not sure what she wants to major in,
but she is minoring in Photography at BYU-I

Congratulations graduates of 2011!

For a look into my life during the last week, click here.

80 hours in the making!

Actually, I don't know how long it took me, but this gift sure did take a long time to make!
I sure hope Kenna and Bracken like it :)

They were married in the Idaho Falls temple on June 3rd.

How wicked is that signature?!

Congratulations Mackenna and Bracken!
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it to their reception.
If you would like to see what I was up to, read here.

Singin' in the Car

I may or may not sing in the car on a daily basis...

Today when I was on my way to an interview at the church
one of my favorite songs came on the radio.
Believe by Brooks and Dunn

I can't quote the book
The chapter or the verse
You can't tell me it all ends
In a slow ride in a hearse
You know I'm more and more convinced
The longer that I live
That this can't be
No, this can't be
No, this can't be all there is

I don't know where I would be without the knowledge of life after death.
I have seen people who are not of my faith lose loved ones and break down because they believe that it's the end.
I wish I could convey to them that it's not...but I just know it's not the right time to say it.
I know that we will all live again one day.
And I am SO grateful for that knowledge.

My Advice to the Class of 2011

Congratulations guys! You did it!
You made it through four years of high school and survived!

Now comes the real test.
Mom and Dad are (most likely) not going to be there to make you do your homework and make you study and make you go to bed at a reasonable hour.
There are going to be TONS more people where you're going.
There are going to be friends forgotten and new friends made.

So here's my advice from a 2010 graduate to the 2011 graduates:

Push yourself.

If possible, don't work your first semester. If you do, keep the hours to a minimum. You need to get used to college life and the homework load before you do anything drastic.

Hold back on the fatty foods.

Always get enough sleep the night before a test.

Stay away from the 8 in the morning classes.

Try not to steadily date someone your first semester. Believe me, this is the advice I wish I had followed.

Find a park close by. It's an excellent stress reliever.

Set up a budget.

Do your homework the day you get it. This is not high school! Late work is definitely frowned upon and you usually get docked. Like a lot.

Don't get in the habit of skipping class because you think it's not important.

Just because a class is a general doesn't mean it's going to be a piece of cake. The hardest class I've taken was a general history class.

Don't be the roommate who lets the dishes in the sink pile up to a Mount Everest look.

Put yourself out there. Make new friends.

Never hesitate to find an excuse to go home for the weekend. My mom wishes I went home more.

Stay in touch with old friends.

Start a journal. If for nothing else, just to write funny quotes and memories in.

Take lots of pictures.

The one thing that's going to come as the biggest shock I would say is that the people you once thought were cool...don't really matter anymore. You don't have to associate with them on a daily basis anymore. This is the time for you to find out who you TRULY are. Not who high school defined you as.
Live it up guys! College is going to be the best time of your life!

Tent Party!

Lyndsey said that she wanted to go camping the other night, but that wasn't an option.
So we did the next best thing:

This tent is set up in our living room!
Oh, and that's not Lyndsey's hand on my knee...that's mine.
Her arm is around Jeff and it just happened to line up perfectly with my hand.

Oh Grayden, you make me laugh!

We had a fun filled night of watching School of Rock and talking until like 3 in the morning!
It made getting up for work the next day not so awesome for Lyndsey, but it was definitely worth it!
